Built from the inside out — just like the businesses I work with.
I did not arrive here in a straight line.
For 25 years I built a career in manufacturing, quality systems and business improvement. Aerospace, defence, large and complex organisations with demanding standards and relentless delivery. I was good at it. Genuinely good. I held the qualifications, led the programmes and delivered the results.
But something was always slightly off. Like wearing a coat that fitted perfectly on paper but never quite felt like mine.
In my early forties everything changed. My marriage ended after 23 years and the life I thought I was building quietly dissolved. What followed was one of the most difficult and, looking back, most necessary periods of my life. A stillness I had not chosen but could not avoid.
In that stillness I did something small. I bought a tent.
It sounds almost too simple. But that one small decision changed everything. It led to wild camping, to solo hiking, to wild swimming in rivers and lakes in all weathers. To surfing, to long days alone in nature with nothing but the landscape and my own thoughts for company.
And in that space, something became clear that had always been there but never quite had room to breathe.
My values. My actual values. Not the ones I had been performing, not the ones that made sense in the context of the career I had built, but the ones that were genuinely mine. A deep belief in people over systems. In grassroots change over top-down power. In the extraordinary potential that lives in every human being when they are given the right conditions to flourish.
I went vegan. I started volunteering with environmental projects. I found communities of people quietly doing remarkable things, not waiting for permission, not seeking the spotlight, just getting on with building a better world one small decision at a time.
I realised that everything I had spent 25 years learning, Lean Six Sigma, continuous improvement, ISO management systems, quality frameworks, coaching, all of it meant something completely different when placed in service of organisations that genuinely cared. That were not just trying to be profitable but were trying to be good. And that had discovered, as I had, that those two things are not in conflict.
Pure Improvement was not so much launched as it was uncovered. It was always there underneath. It just needed the right conditions to emerge.
Today I work with purpose-driven founders, leaders and organisations who can feel the gap between what they stand for and how their business actually operates. Who know their values should be driving their results and are not quite sure why they are not yet. Who are ready to stop firefighting and start flowing.
I bring everything I know, the technical rigour of 25 years in business improvement, the human understanding that comes from having rebuilt my own life from the inside out, and a genuine, unshakeable belief that businesses built around values are not just more ethical. They are more powerful.

WHY I DO THIS
I believe the most powerful force for change in the world is people.
Not governments, not corporations, not those with the most money or the loudest voice. People, ordinary, passionate, creative, soul-led people who decide that something matters and start building towards it, in their communities, in their businesses, in the small daily choices that quietly add up to something extraordinary.
I believe we are living through a moment where that kind of grassroots, values-led, human-centred change has never been more important. And I believe that purpose-driven businesses, the ones built by people who genuinely care, who measure success by more than profit, who want their work to mean something, are one of the most powerful vehicles we have for creating it.
That is why I do this. Not to fix broken businesses. But to help good people build great ones. To give soul-led founders and leaders the tools, the frameworks and the confidence to turn their values into their greatest competitive advantage. To show that when communities of people unite around a shared purpose, when businesses operate from their values outward, something shifts. The world gets a little better, one business, one community, one decision at a time. This is not just a commercial mission. It is a human one

These six values are my compass. They came before Pure Improvement and they will outlast it. They are not principles I adopted for business — they are the truth of who I am, refined through experience, loss, nature, community and a lifetime of paying attention to what actually matters.
They thread through everything. The way I work. The clients I choose. The conversations I have. The decisions I make when no one is watching. They are the reason Pure Improvement exists in the form it does — and they are what I look for, and help to nurture, in every organisation I work with.

Real change has always begun at ground level, in communities, in conversations, in the quiet courage of ordinary people who choose to care for one another. I have an unshakeable faith in our collective ability to build something better, together. Not waiting for permission. Not looking to those at the top. Just people, showing up for each other.

Connection is our most primal and profound need, to ourselves, to each other, to the living world around us. What we are truly seeking is not the next thing, it is each other. Soul to soul. Human to human. I believe that when people feel genuinely seen, heard and valued, something extraordinary becomes possible. And I believe we all carry a responsibility to see one another, especially those who have been made invisible.

Every being, every ecosystem, every river and root system is part of the same living whole, and we have the profound honour of sharing it. I believe in gratitude, in stewardship, in treading lightly and leaving things more whole than we found them. Mama Earth sustains everything. I try to live and work in a way that honours that every single day.

Free to exist as they are. Free to speak, to love, to work, to move through the world with dignity and without fear. I believe with every part of me that no person is worth more than another, that every human life carries equal weight and equal worth. I work towards a world where that is not just an ideal but a lived reality, one person, one business, one community at a time.

I choose truth — not because it is always easy, but because it is always worth it. The kind of honest, clear-eyed seeing that creates the possibility of something real. I will always tell you what I genuinely think. I will never dress something up to make it more palatable. And I hold myself to exactly the same standard I bring to everything else — because truth, spoken with care, is one of the most generous things one person can offer another.

I try to be that person every day. And I work with people who are building that same quality into the heart of their organisations.
I believe we are capable of something extraordinary. Not as corporations or governments or institutions — but as people. As communities. As human beings who choose, every single day, to build something rather than destroy it, to connect rather than divide, to lift rather than diminish.
My vision is not modest. It is a world that works for everyone. A world where communities are strong, where people are free, where the earth is honoured and where the measure of success is not how much we have accumulated but how well we have cared for one another.

I know that a business consultancy is not going to save the world on its own. But I also know that every purpose-driven business that thrives creates ripples. It employs people who feel valued.
